Ramon M. Perez of Elgin passed away May 7, 2019 at St. Joseph’s Hospital surrounded by his loving and faithful family. Born April 30, 1937 in Laredo Texas to the late Justo and Minerva Perez. Ramon is survived by his loving wife Maria; beloved children Minerva C. Perez and Juan J. (Juanita) Perez; grandchildren Flor M. Materko, Paloma C. Materko, Angelica F. Cho, and Amariah A. Perez; and dear sister Maria Antonieta Perez-Sanchez.
Ramon was raised in Chicago and attended Malcom X College and IBLA Bible College A of G. He was also a very self educated man armed with the self discipline of reading. This helped him become a very active member of any community he resided in. He was the director of Palabra Organization in Chicago, an active member of The Moose Lodge in Carpentersville as well as being a volunteer Spanish translator in Carpentersville for 10 years under Judge Hollack. Ramon also received the Lincoln Award for community service from the VFW. He and his family are active members at Discovery Church in Elgin.
Ramon was a simple, humble, God fearing man. A great father, social activist and enjoyed helping people. He taught us as children to love, forgive, and give. He always said, no one walks alone and always put everything in God’s hands, so you can enjoy life. Trust God for everything you do and love HIM more than anyone else. Always love your family and don’t be afraid to speak for those with no voice. He lived Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man what is good: and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.
